pumpkin boots

Changing leaves, scarves, acorns, Halloween, pumpkins, candy corn, sweaters, apple pie, although it doesn't feel like it here in Tuscaloosa, it's finally Fall!  Fall's cornucopia (couldn't help it) of unequaled traits cannot be contained to one word, thus referred to as Autumn for those that prefer two syllables and a silent "n".

In honor of the first official week of Fall, I longed to break into a few seasonal pieces sleeping in the back of my closet. I channeled Madeline with my black jumper/collared shirt layering technique and paired them with pumpkin-colored booties and polka-dot tights. Didn't Madeline have ivy crawling up her school? We are practically twins. I need a hat and 11 more girls to walk with me in pairs across the quad. Any takers?

PS- The harvest moon is on the 29th. Happy stargazing.

prints on prints on prints

I was originally inspired by this look from Blair over at Atlantic-Pacific, but sadly, could not afford the fluffy $400 Kate Spade creation. I decided to mirror the casual-whimsy exuding from the feather skirt/chambray shirt combo by using my lovely/stylish mother's similar feather-like skirt fron Ann Taylor. This fashion endeavor quickly turned into a print-mixing blitzkrieg, a battle between polka-dots and water-color which eventually came to a stand still: thus resulting in an overwhelming perfectly proportioned commingling of prints. Enjoy.

I changed three times this morning and this is what I came up with...

This brisk almost-autumn morning began with an internal dilemma so many fashion-conscious women deal with on a regular basis. What should I wear? Should I compliment the cold morning air and break out my fall wardrobe, chomping at the bit inside my closet and suffer a heat stroke by noon? Or, should I re-visit my summer staples and succumb to goosebumps on my walk to class? In the words of Miley Cyrus, I got the "best of both worlds" by pairing my favorite chunky knit with polka-dot shorts.  I was running late due to my carefully constructed sartorial choices and had no time to make the proper shoe selection; thus explaining the curb-stomping black boots. I don't know about you, but I think the grungy feel of my Santa-inspired footwear brings a new light to prim polka-dot shorts.

I am going to be honest with you. The "me" I have been portraying over the past 30 blog posts is a lot cooler than the real Abbey. The root of it all, the heart of the matter, the stone cold facts...

This is me trying to display the militant qualities of my combat boots. (notice the pre-kick stretch top-left) If you can't laugh at yourself then...I'm not sure the end of the quote, but I know I can!

mondays are for whining

Mondays are fun-days when you dress for success. I get it. In college, comfort is key. I am confident that the comfort experienced from my jersey knit max-skirt and oversized cardigan can rival any athletic shorts/t-shirt combination. The former doesn't require shaving your legs (aaaaaand I can't wear athletic shorts and t-shirts because I will look like an androgynous frump.)

Monday seems to surprise me with her chaotic presence every week, despite my continued efforts of preparation. I spent the majority of today catching up on procrastinated schoolwork, preparing interview questions for CW articles, and trying without much success to perfect the humble beginnings of my Drawing I project. Life-like depictions aren't my thing, okay?

Now, I will light a candle and finish reading Glamour with my favorite kitty lady. Louise loves Emma Watson almost as much as I do.
happy monday!

on intimidatingly couture pants, blood-red lips, and embracing fall trends

The best day of the month comes when the mail man decides to grace my front porch mail box with my monthly Vogue subscription. This month I was unprepared for the beauty bestowed upon the September issue. Not only did Lady Gaga rock the front cover with a mulberry mermaid gown, but its contents were nearly quadrupled. Yes, that means 1000 pages of rich automnal colors and gorgeous textures which encompass fall 2012.
Two trends I could not get over were the abundant styles of pants and the dark vampy lip that accompanied sleek up-dos and masculine sartorial blends. Pants are no longer limited to skinny jeans and chinos. The dress has been replaced with pants of all artistry. Structured, embroidered, billowing, leather, chiffon, high-waisted, drop-crotch; they all found their way into the September issue of Vogue. There is something about the inescapable power associated with a woman and a statement making pant and killer heels. She would reign over any evening-event she attended.

The vampy lip couldn't coordinate better with a statement making pant. From maroon to tawny, a dark lip is a great way to add drama to an outfit.  Any man would die of intimidation if on the first date, his lady friend showed up with better dress pants than himself and lips the color of coagulated blood. Some may say this look is too dramatic, or too masculine, or too cold; I say embrace it. That is what I love about fashion, what other part of your life can you change on a moments notice that can completely transform mood/character/aesthetic. Poor, poor boys.
I stumbled upon a pair of chiffon wide-leg pants reminiscent of my sheer curtains and could not leave the store without them. The leather details on the waist band were too perfect, complimenting the delicate fabric. I decided to pair them with a home-made t-shirt tank and an edgy shoe to lessen the feel of wedding bells often associated with billowing white fabric. P.S. white after labor day, I know, I'm a sartorial rebel.

I re-styled my lucid gem for a more functional fall look. I have to tone things down for Tuscaloosa, they just can't handle me in my entirety, yet. Thanks, Daniel for these beautiful pictures. You have the eye.

wishing..

What I would give to be in New York City right about now. Fashion's Night Out is tonight. That means I get to sulk while all the tweets and blog posts pour in about big city celebrations from all the famed fashion ladies. Tuscaloosa's sparse participation simply won't suffice. After tonight, I will be slaving away with school and watching footballs and not at Fashion Week. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for my education, but how much more fun would it be to be on the red carpet for New York Fashion Week? So in honor of all things NYFW, FNO, and fall I will be dressed to the nines every day for class. A little much? No, but this Parkchoonmoo runway look is. Its all in the business. NYC 2014 or bust!
