an ode to a legend

Haircuts, breakups, first bar experience, first kisses, beach trips and bon fires have slowly but surely unraveled my denim cutoffs beyond wearable length. I have had these trusty favorites since 2008, and sadly it is time that they must retire from my closet rotation. I figured it would be easiest to part in the autumn months- I could tell myself it was  Mother Nature that blew my precious pants from my grasp with her mighty October winds.
Indeed, they have reached a length that is far too close to that of a Christina Aguilera in her "Dirrty" phase. They probably really are dirty. I can count the number of times I washed them in our four years of friendship; fearing the repercussions of the washing mashing's wrath on the threads as well as the luck instilled in the stitching.  I for one am always up for daring fashion choices, but I just can not justify these faithful shredded Levis any longer. (Even with tights, I tried.)

I have enjoyed my time spent in these seemingly insignificant pair of pants: sitting on porch swings after a long goodbye, dancing under full summer moons and in a bar for the first time, tiptoeing out the backdoor (sorry, Mom), swimming in salt water  and celebrating national championships. May you rest in peace, sweet Levi 501's; in the bottom of the shorts drawer tucked neatly into my cabinet converted closet.

october accouterments with a high of 79

Nothing exciting was happening, thus my sartorial choices reflected my inner desire for adventure. My appetite for quirky combinations lead me to couple two of my all-time favorite pieces with a new pair of black booties.
This October, I have exhausted the stitches of my denim button-down, slipping it on atop every ensemble lacking in cool-weather ardor. It has been my go-to shirt when the weather has failed my autumn-lusting spirit.
My polka-dot pencil skirt is my saving grace when the changing leaves of October is accompanied by a high of 79. When I bought it, I envisioned sweaters and tights to compliment the mustard print, but Tuscaloosa isn't forgiving to those who overspend on their fall wardrobe.

More on the important decision of 21st-birthday-accouterments soon to come.

Some days, a skirt that twirls is all you need to reignite the child-like confidence often lost in the modernity of today's society  feel like a nine-year-old diva and traipse like you mean it in off-brand chloe booties. In my perusing through Huntsville's brand new H&M, this water-color pleated piece tugged at my fervor for the 4th grade similar to that of Molly McEntire. The multitude of colors, the twirling pleats, I couldn't say no.

To counteract the vibrant pattern, I chose to layer more sophisticated black and white pieces; including a vest/blazer maverick and studded button front shirt.

In other news...I am currently in search of the perfect sartorial combination for my golden birthday (21 on the 21st). Even though the city of Tuscaloosa is lacking in my preferred night-time entertainment, I am determined to go somewhere special so I can wear something sparkly, or tulle, or leather, or all of the above -since those are all acceptable birthday fabrics.
