just another monday cliche

Okay, so maybe I didn't wear the sequined skirt today. It is monday, after all. There just wasn't enough time this weekend for blogging adventures. We here at UA were too busy stomping football rivals to notice anything else going on in the outside world, like say the gluttonous black friday uproars or cyber monday preparations.

I concocted this little celebration-esque get up to inspire the inner twinkling holiday prima-donna in all of us. But really, does there have to be an occasion to sport a sequined mini? The oversized sweater, aforementioned in a past post, makes its subsequent appearance to mask the skanky risque aura that may linger when one masks the upper thighs with five inches of glitter. The H&M  cable-knit has recently made itself at home amongst my winter wardrobe, often gracing the outdoors two and three times a week. It (she? does the pronoun choice really matter when referring to beloved sweaters?)  just seems to add the right amount of "frump" to contrast something that's too sparkly or too tight or too short.

Sequin skirt+oversized knit+dainty bag/flats=perfect holiday ensemble. This combination screams I'm asking for attention because I'm wearing sequins, but it's okay because sequins are a holiday-approved textile, but really I don't care...see, I'm hiding my assets in a horizontally striped sweater that is two sizes too big. And scene.

red leather pants aren't for special occasions

I have truly embodied the fall leather trend this season. From delicate details to full on leather leggings, I seem to be drawn to all things animal-skinned.

After first spotting these burgundy beauts in the back of H&M, I just knew they were destined for  greatness, stealing the spotlight over the majority of my neutral closet.  I have been waiting to break these babies out for a couple of months now. I had to wait until the weather proved worthy of the unforgivingly hot material. I'd say I'm on the more daring side when it comes to fashion choices, so I just couldn't wait for a special occasion to adorn my wintry pale legs in the faux leather-ish burgandy skinnies. The time is now.

To relinquish the fabric from its proverbial state (usually associated with sweaty dominatrix or motorcycle-riding bandits), I paired said pleather treasure with my prudish cowl neck sweater. And thus, a paradoxical fashion couplet is born.

the vest and a sad sad story

This is my perfect go-to-class ensemble. Black skinnies, chunky knit, and a studded army vest to add a touch of  Eliza Thornberry to my otherwise intrinsic cold-weather pieces. All I'm missing is some boisterous red hair and a monkey sidekick.

This vest was last seen on my birthday wish list post. I imagined its presence atop every fall sweater combination and it certainly did not disappoint. I have worn this River Island gem over cocktail dresses and cozy knits alike. There is just something about it's edgy ardor that flatters all of my favorite fall pieces. (Thanks, Aunt Trish!)

The boots were an afterthought, motivated by the mid-morning rainstorm. I think they decorate this otherwise neutral ensemble quite nicely.

I try not to add too much of my personal life to this pint-sized fashion microcosm, but this day is different. Saturday was a sad day in Tuscaloosa, the Roll Tide dynasty was shattered. We lost. Some cried. My voice is gone and so is our chance at another national title. It was fun while it lasted.  Here is a little slice of campus, my favorite spot, right next to work and our monstrosity of a stadium. Roll Tide.

dilemmas

When I go shopping, my goal is to find the most unusual or dramatic piece of clothing. I love the challenge of styling a particularly peculiar piece for everyday wear. It is just too bad that THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN TUSCALOOSA THAT CALLS FOR A FULL LENGTH SEQUIN SKIRT. So here's to all of the clothes I passed with a heavy heart and instead opted for more "functional" pieces. sigh.

zara classics

The birthday fairy was very good to me this year. I received some great "grown up" pieces perfect for the New York City wardrobe I am slowly trying to accrue. This beautiful cream jacket from Zara has been on my wish list for a while, so when I pulled it from the brown paper tucked neatly into it's sleek black box, I already had ten outfits planned to go with the Chanel-esque piece.

I wrote an article for The Crimson White about outwear and believe it is the best splurge item for any wardrobe. A strong jacket or blazer can transform any outfit from plain jane to sophisticated and pulled-together. I decided to pair my jacket with a girly peplum shape to balance out the edgy shoulder pads and boyfriend jeans.
