both

"Let me be ragged or well dressed."

How about both? You can't often have it all; or be it all, but you can wear it all. 2013 has been the year of sparkle. I don't particularly have a penchant for ball gowns and tiaras—as I am usually struggling to maintain a feminine flair when dressing myself. But if it's covered in sparkles, you better believe I will snatch it up to fight its perverbial princess qualties; pairing it with something distressed or denim. Sequined pocket? Gotta have it. Shiny palazzopant? Need it. Full-length embellished mermaid skirt? Are you kidding? The fight is on.

These days I find myself reflecting on the life changes ahead and closing the college chapter of life. I know this is kind corny and trite, but this outfit embodies my blogs title rather perfectly. With reflection comes nostalgia I suppose.

Are you allowed to wear these kinds of light-catching ensembles on weekdays after age 22? Are sequins commonplace in the work place? Probably not, but I'm determined. This pairing of denim, lace-up boots and the perfect cream-colored cable-knit works to subdue the BCBG held captive in the sequined maxi, by playing up the Ralph Lauren in the textured counterparts—both ragged and well dressed.

Thank you, Daniel for the photos.
Thank you, Marc for the book.

Rain simply cannot quell the sparkle of a sequined skirt nor the stomp of a studded heel.

I love mixing contrasting looks to create interesting and wearable outfits. I've had these pieces for a while now, but because fashion is in fact not a prerequisite to many Tuscaloosa venues, this ensemble rarely gets an audience. There is no fun in pairing a sequined skirt with an equally glam tube top and nude platforms. Predictable. By pairing the statement-making skirt with a subdued top (i.e white and distressed denim), the fashion sage will achieve wearable, every-day status. Who wouldn't want to adorn themselves in sequins on a daily basis?

As it was raining off and on all day, my roommate and I decided a fun, sequined frock would contrast nicely with the dreary weather we've been having. What started with grey clouds, and a drizzle easily staunched by trees,  ended in an all out downpour, soaking us both to the bone. Exposing my childlike tendencies so often likened to a showboat and with leftover laughter from this afternoon, I give you my favorite unlikely union of trends. Denim, gold, leather, and the perfect white t-shirt—a combination every woman should remember.

Thank you, thank you sweet Sarah for your keen eye and fun-loving spirit.

"I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feelin', I'm happy again.I'm laughing at clouds, so dark up above. The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love. Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place. Come on with the rain. I've a smile on my face. I walk down the lane with a happy refrain. Just singin', singin' in the rain."
